The path to expertise: a professional life in the field of explosives defense

The basis for MK9S was laid by over 16 years of active service as an explosive ordnance disposal specialist in the German Armed Forces. This time was characterized by numerous deployments in international war and crisis zones, where working with explosives and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) was not just theoretical knowledge, but daily reality. Every deployment under real, extreme conditions sharpened the understanding of threat scenarios, operational planning and the importance of precise detection.

After leaving the German Armed Forces, he worked as a defusing officer for a German state police authority. Here, the military experience was transferred to the civilian context and expanded to include the special features of official structures, procedures and cooperation with security authorities. Working in a police environment deepened his understanding of the specific requirements of public security in Germany.

At the same time, several years of involvement as a specialized consultant, mentor and trainer for security forces in various high-risk countries as part of UN mandates led to a wealth of international experience. These assignments involved the education, training and mentoring of military and police forces in the areas of EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal), C-IED (Counter Improvised Explosive Device) and counter-terrorism operations. These activities not only broadened the professional horizon, but also sharpened the understanding of different threat situations, tactics and operational challenges worldwide.

This entire professional career - which revolves entirely around the topic of explosives and explosive devices - has given rise to a passion for incorporating this knowledge and experience into the training, further education and training of authorities and organizations with security tasks (BOS) as well as security service providers. At MK9S, our service dog handlers are briefed accordingly and prepared for possible future scenarios in the K9 field - not on the basis of internet research, but on the basis of decades of practical experience in the field.

This path of continuous further training continues to this day: with the successful completion of a PFSO course (Port Facility Security Officer) in accordance with the ISPS Code the specialist knowledge in the maritime security sector was specifically deepened. The certificate of attendance is proof of the know-how acquired about port security structures, processes and international security standards - knowledge that flows directly into our maritime operations and enables us to communicate with port operators, shipping companies and security managers on an equal footing.
